Up to $4,300 in Rebates for Pepco & BGE Customers in Maryland

Pepco or BGE customers in Maryland are eligible to receive up to $4,300 in rebates per home for energy efficiency home improvements, through your utility’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program.

What’s the First Step?

In order to take advantage of the rebate program, you must start with a comprehensive energy audit performed by a participating energy auditor (Green Collar Crew is an approved energy auditor for the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program).

What Exactly is a Home Energy Audit?

Our certified Home Energy Auditors perform the audit to the specifications outlined by the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program. We use specialized diagnostic equipment to determine where comfort issues, energy loss, and safety concerns may be arising in your home, including detection of invisible gas leaks. The audit is extremely thorough, and examines your home top to bottom, inside and out.

The Comprehensive Home Energy Audit includes:

  1. Air Leakage Test: We use a special piece of equipment called a “blower door” to identify where heated (and air conditioned) air is escaping from your home, making your furnace (and air conditioner) work overtime and wasting your money as you pay to heat (and cool) the outdoors.
  2. Furnace & Water Heater Safety and Efficiency Tests: We use gas meters to detect dangerous levels of invisible, odorless, toxic emissions like carbon monoxide or other combustion gasses coming from your gas appliances. We also examine your appliances to determine their energy efficiency.
  3. Inspection of Energy Features: Your auditor will examine the energy features in your home, including attic insulation, lighting, windows, doors, siding, etc to find places where energy loss and comfort issues are originating.
  4. Install Energy Efficiency Measures: Pepco and BGE customers may receive energy and water saving measures at no additional cost.

How Long Does It Take?

The audit takes 2 to 3 hours depending on the size of your home and the number of HVAC systems.

What Happens After the Audit?

  1. You Receive an Audit Report: The easy-to-understand report shows where your home is losing energy and creating health, comfort and energy loss issues. It includes a prioritized list of recommended improvements, including:

    • Costs to implement each recommendation
    • Energy savings estimates
    • Return-on-investment estimates, including the amount of time it will take to pay for the improvement with the energy savings it provides.
You will receive a copy of your report during your follow-up meeting with our home performance specialist.
  2. Review the Report With Our Home Performance Specialist: Our Home Performance Specialist will visit you to review the findings and discuss the recommended solutions. The Specialist can guide you how to maximize the rebates offered by your utility. You decide which improvements to move forward with.
  3. Improvement Work Completed: Our professional, in-house home performance experts install your home improvements according to industry best practices. Our installers are certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI) with industry-standard certifications.
  4. We Verify Results: After the improvements are completed, your energy auditor returns to run the tests again to make sure the upgrades are providing the safety, comfort and energy efficiency as expected. Where else will you get rebates AND verified results?

Do I Need Really This?

Only you can know if a home energy audit will be useful for you. Ask yourself these questions...

  1. Do you want to lower your energy bills? Most of our customers are driven by high energy costs. Your energy audit report shows you how you can reduce your energy consumption through physical upgrades to your home and things you can do to save energy - and money! Most of our customers save up to 40% on their energy bills by following the auditor’s recommendations.
  2. Do you want to improve your indoor comfort? Your audit report provides solutions for comfort issues, including drafts, uneven heating/cooling, humidity issues, air quality concerns, and mold/mildew/musty odors.
  3. Are you concerned about appliance safety and efficiency? Do you worry that your appliances could be contributing to poor air quality - or emitting noxious gasses? Do you wonder if a new, efficient appliance would save you money in the long run? Do you want to find out which appliances are nearing the end of their useful life (so you can replace them before it becomes an emergency)? An energy audit will put your mind at ease, and help you make the right purchasing decisions.
  4. Are you concerned about indoor air quality? Your home energy audit measures your home’s air quality to find factors that could be contributing to unhealthy air. Your audit report also includes a recommendation for the the ideal air exchange rate to ensure clean air while maximizing the usefulness of conditioned air.
  5. Are you thinking about remodeling? If you are remodeling your home, this is an opportunity to improve your home’s comfort and energy efficiency at the same time - and even have the government pay part of the cost. And many of the solutions will actually save you money over time.

How Much Does it Cost?

The comprehensive home energy audit will cost you $100. This service normally costs $400 but we reduce your cost by $300 as part of your utility’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program.

How Does The Rebate Work?

If you proceed with the improvements recommended in your energy audit report, Pepco or BGE will reward you with:

  • Rebates equal to 50% of the cost of weatherization measures (for example, making improvements to your air sealing, insulation or windows*) up to $2,000.

  • Rebates equal to 50% of the cost of weatherization measures listed above plus making improvements to your duct sealing, up to $2,500.

  • Rebates equal to 50% of the cost of making improvements to your duct sealing, up to $2,500.

You can also get up to $1,800 in additional rebates if you install new, energy-efficient appliances or HVAC equipment.

Add it all up, and you could get up to $4,300 in rebates for making your home more comfortable and energy efficient.**

* Windows are eligible for rebates only when performed as part of a larger scope of work that includes air sealing, duct sealing and/or insulation improvements.

** Certain restrictions apply. Maximum rebate amount of $4,300 is based on the inclusion of duct sealing services and installation of HVAC equipment as part of the overall scope of work.

When Do These Rebates Expire?

Rebate programs typically expire when they run out of funds, without notice. There is no set end date. Take advantage of these rebates while they are still available.

Are You an Approved Company?

Yes. We are a "Participating Contractor" for Pepco and BGE's Home Performance with ENERGY STAR rebate programs. Click here to verify our company on the Pepco website (scroll down to Green Collar Crew Maryland, Inc.).

We were unaware of what was involved in an energy audit and your audior took the time to explain everything. We were impressed with the report which told us the areas in which we need to take action on. He never pressured us to use any particular contractors, he just suggested that we go to the HomeEnergyTeam web site to select contractors of our own choice. He did an excellent job and we HIGHLY recommend the Home Energy Team Affiliates. We already have recommended them to several of our neighbors. Again, EXCELLENT JOB!
Cynthia Simpson

Willie Gantt

Your home energy audit proved to be very informative and helpful. I was not aware of the updraft created inside our walls because of the balloon framing construction. You said that that can cause heat to be pulled out of the house with the draft going up inside the walls and should be re-mediated. You also said that the attic insulation was insufficient and that fiberglass batts can leave spaces for around the edges causing heat loss and that it should have blown in insulation on top of what was there to seal the whole attic and increase the R factor. Thank You for all your advice and expertise. You made me aware of things I should consider and did the upgrades. I can already see the difference on my utility bills!
